Christmas Carols in Punta Mita — The Photos!

article-image

Punta Mita celebrated the spirit of Christmas in paradise with an charming evening of Christmas Carols. This past December 21st, the Residents’ Beach Club, was the scenario for a special evening where Peace & Punta de Mita Foundation Choir entertained the Punta Mita community with carols in English and Spanish.

The tradition of Chrismas carols dates back to the 4th century Rome, but grew in popularity during the 13th century when St. Francis of Assisi started his tradition of Nativity Plays in Italy. The people in the plays sang songs or ‘canticles’ that told the story during the plays. Sometimes, the choruses of these new carols were in Latin; but normally they were all in a language that the people watching the play could understand and join in, and so the tradition of caroling blossomed.  The songs we know specifically as carols were originally communal songs sung during celebrations like harvest tide as well as Christmas — but later began to be specifically associated with Christmas. Carols are also referred to as a noël, from the French word meaning “Christmas”.

Here are ten of the most popular Christmas Carols — which is your favorite?

  • The 12 Days of Christmas
  • The First Noel
  • I Saw Three Ships
  • We Wish You A Merry Christmas
  • Joy To The World
  • O Come, All Ye Faithful
  • Good King Wenceslas
  • O Holy Night
  • Silent Night
  • Ding Dong Merrily On High

As a way of sharing the holiday spirit, guests were encouraged to bring a gift for the kids or their families of our local community. PEACE and the Punta de Mita Foundation which were distributed during Christmas.

Thank you very much to all attendees, we are sure this will become an annual tradition in Punta Mita. After all — where else can you sing carols by the sea, under palm trees dancing in the balmy breezes?!
