Punta Mita! – September celebrations! 30 favorite things about Mexico

article-image

The namePunta Mitahas several potential origins, but is generally believed to be a local adaptation of the Aztec word mictlan, meaning “gateway to paradise” or, “where Earth meets heaven”. We’d certainly agree with that…

Originally Punta Mita was the site of an ancient celestial observatory which has been dated circa 800 AD, the perfect spot then and now, for stargazing of all kinds — from the Big Dipper to Lady Gaga.

Punta Mita feels like a private island as it is situated on a 1,500-acre natural peninsula of land, bordered on three sides by nine miles of coastline with white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and exuberant landscapes. It is home to exotic fauna including, but not limited to, jaguars, Canadians, blue-footed boobies at the Marieta Islands, and a rock star called Meatloaf.

This exquisite peninsula, has been artfully developed as a luxury destination, home to the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita and St. Regis Punta Mita Resort, as well as a collection of exclusive luxury private villas and condos, a tennis club, beach clubs, hiking trails, two Jack Nicklaus Signature golf courses and of course, lots of great surf spots all of which are adjacent to a rustic fishing village named Punta de Mita.

We saved the best for last…of all of the many things we love about Mexico, Punta Mita just happens to be our favorite!
