Fundación Punta de Mita inaugurates Stage I of the Del Mar Community Center
This past Friday, February 10th, Fundación Punta de Mita inaugurated Stage I of the Del Mar Community Center. This dream has been in the works for over 2 years and thanks to their national network, Comunalia, and a 1 million peso grant from the Soriana Foundation, it is now coming about!
The event was headed by Greg Stanton, board President of Fundación Punta de Mita, and Lisa Schalla, its Executive Director. They were accompanied by Claudia Aguado and Raúl Martínez Garza representing Fundación Soriana, Director of Comunalia: Laura Trejo, Bahía de Banderas Mayor José Gómez, Lourdes Ibarra from the Municipal Direction of Education, Culture and Sports, as well as many families and friends of the community.
Isabel González Cázarez and Paloma Loza also shared what this community center means to them and their neighbors. The event was followed by Mariachi music and food and drink offered by community members.
All of the presidium agreed on the importance of alliances between different sectors of society in order to make significant change, and Schalla said she hoped that municipal authorities would invite the Foundation to dialogues about community needs.
Stage I of Del Mar includes a large multipurpose room, and outdoor kitchen and restrooms. One of the first activities for the Center is a workshop on starting business endeavors based on skill building, healthy interpersonal relationships and knowledge of the market. Other programs will be developed by a community-based planning committee.
Fundación Punta de Mita invites everyone to participate at Del Mar with your talents, time and treasures. Come and take a look and the installations on Av. Las Pangas 67, just across from the Sports Center and the Catholic Church of Nuevo Corral del Risco.
