LivePuntaMita Style: Ten Questions with Designer Erica Maree

At the suggestion of Deb Ferrari, Manager of the Boutiques of Punta Mita at Four Seasons Resort, is featuring a series entitled “Ten Questions With…”. The idea is that rather than recounting details of the items sold in the Boutiques, we’ll have more fun getting to know the local designers and artists who create them. Each of the designers featured in this series has their work available in the Boutiques of Punta Mita.

Erica Maree, Designer

1. Describe yourself in 140 characters or less – Twitter-bio style

My adventures take place in Mexico where here in Spanish, they call me a costura. I wake up to roosters crowing and fall asleep in a hammock. I eat way too many tacos and not enough of that green stuff. I am a wife, mother and designer.

2. What do you view as your strongest connection to Punta de Mita?

The beaches have to be my biggest connection to Punta Mita. My daughter Leah, is an avid surfer and spends countless hours hanging ten on the surf at El Anclote.

3. Where do you find your inspiration?

Inspiration often comes to me when I’m least expecting it! That’s the fun in it, right? Mostly I’m drawn to the everyday ordinary and making it my version extraordinary.

4. What is your perfect Punta de Mita day (or, night?)

The perfect day starts by taking in the amazing coastal views while driving up from Puerto Vallarta. Arriving to the beach and claiming my spot on the sand for the entire day with endless choices of delicious cuisine at my fingertips.

5. Where is your favorite Punta de Mita place to dine & drink?

Si Señor has the best choices for my appetite! The staff and ambiance is just my speed.

6. What is your favorite way to play in Punta Mita?

That’s easy…the beach and ocean! Stepping into the waters in Punta Mita is like no other in the Bay of Banderas. The sand is soft between my toes and the water is gentle on my soul.

7. Finish this sentence:  Punta Mita, to me is…

a “staycation” experience in this backyard paradise that I live in. Close enough to my home base in Puerto Vallarta, but still just far enough away to give me and my family that relaxed, untouched vacation feel.

8. What is your “go to” style, when in Punta Mita?

Bohemian casual chic every time. You will always find me in an array of colorful wares with a mix of texture. But lets face it: the bikini is all that I really need when in Mita!

9. How did you get your start in designing?

I have always had a passion for design but it really came to life while living in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. This is the place were the original Erica Maree Hobo bag was inspired, crafted and came to life.

10. What’s your perfect family/OR/romantic Punta Mita moment?

My most favorite moments are when I get to sit back, relax and watch our family play on the waves. There is something calming about lounging on the sand with the entire bay, our place we call home, just beyond my toes.

The Boutiques of Punta Mita are located at the entry to the Four Seasons Resort, adjacent to the Lobby, and are open daily from 10am to 7:30pm.
