Vacation Rental Information

Area Overview

Punta Mita, once a rustic fishing village, has been artfully developed as a luxury destination. It’s important to note there are really two areas here: “Punta Mita Resort”  and the town of Punta de Mita, also referred to as El Anclote. Punta Mita refers to the resorts, homes and amenities inside the gates of the planned luxury community. Punta de Mita refers to the adjacent town, and seaside village.

The vacation rental residences you'll find here are all located in this specific geographical area, extending from La Cruz de Huanacaxtle and its new Marina, up the North Shore of Banderas Bay, including Punta de Mita Village and the Punta Mita Resort, and on to the emerging Litibu development.

The Punta Mita Resort is home to the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita and the St. Regis Punta Mita Resort, as well as an array of exclusive luxury private villas and condos–many of which are available for rent. Amenities for the community include a tennis club, two Beach Clubs, walking trails, and two Jack Nicklaus Signature golf courses.

The site of an ancient celestial observatory, the Punta de Mita peninsula is an exquisite setting, with white-sand beaches and clear waters. The northern shore of Banderas Bay is emerging as the area’s most exclusive address for luxury villas and accommodations.

When arriving by plane, the Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR) is close to the north end of town near Marina Vallarta, about 27km (16[bf]3/4 miles) distance from Punta de Mita.

Transportes Terrestres minivans and Aeromovil taxis make the trip from the airport. They use a zone pricing system, with fares clearly posted at the ticket booths. Taxi fares average about $100 US ($1200 MN) for a ride to the Punta de Mita hotels. Federally licensed airport taxis exclusively provide transportation from the airport, and their fares are more than double local taxi fares. Only airport cabs may pick up passengers leaving the airport.

Note that when you arrive at the International Arrivals gate, after you collect your baggage, you enter into an enclosed area with colorful wall displays and an aggressive group of seemingly helpful greeters; be aware that these are timeshare salespeople, and their goal, often in the guise of offering you free or discounted transportation, is to get you to attend a timeshare presentation. Keep walking—just outside this booth are the bona fide taxi and transportation alternatives.

Aerotron is the private airport (FBO) and it is located adjacent to the International Airport. Aerotron is recognized as one of the premier Fixed Base Operators in Mexico, offering service to national and international clients in its two locations – Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara. The full complement of services is available at Aerotron’s facilities, including fuel, hangar, customs and immigration services, plane charters, repair and complete concierge services within their well-appointed passenger VIP and Crew lounge areas.; tel +(52) 322 226 8440.

Major car rental agencies have counters at the airport, including Budget ([tel] 800/472-3325 in the U.S., or 322/221-1730), Hertz ([tel] 322/221-1473 or -1399), National ([tel] 322/221-1226), and Alamo ([tel] 322/221-1228), open during flight arrivals; they generally can also deliver a car to your hotel. Daily rates run $60 to $80 US. Some guests find having a car handy, especially when traveling with a group or family, or if you plan to explore the towns surrounding the Punta de Mita area.

Within Punta Mita, you’ll find taxis (at the Resorts and in the village) readily available (local taxi number is: 329-291-5301). If you are staying inside the gates of the Punta Mita resort at a rental villa or condo, there is also a complementary community shuttle that runs daily from 9am to 6pm.

One popular option is renting a golf cart. Best option is Mita Cart Rentals, which has a large inventory of high-quality golf carts available for rent. Cost is $65 USD per day for a 4-seat cart, or $75 USD for a 6-seater. Reserve with them at, or, telephone ([tel] 329-291-5012).

It’s warm all year, with tropical temperatures; however, evenings and early mornings in the winter can turn quite cool. Summers are sunny, with an increase in humidity during the rainy season, between May and October. Rains come almost every afternoon in June and July, and are usually brief but strong—just enough to cool off the air for evening activities. In September, heat and humidity are least comfortable and rains heaviest.

The Punta de Mita peninsula is generally about 5-10 degrees (F) cooler than the Puerto Vallarta area, and also less humid, due to the constant sea breezes across the peninsula.

Health & Safety

A Few Words About Safety… The area enjoys a healthy economy and stable political system, and as such, crime is not common, but we always recommend using common sense.  For anyone concerned about the recent news of escalating violence in Mexico related to drug cartels, please be aware that the vast majority of this has taken place in either the border towns, or near Mexico City—all areas that all are over a thousand miles from Punta Mita and the Puerto Vallarta area. In fact, the Puerto Vallarta region is known for having one of the lowest violent crime rates in the country and the city government works continuously to keep both its citizens and visitors safe. The only exception to the above is last year's violence in the city of Tepic, located approximately 166 km. north of Punta Mita, with shootings registered between rival drug gangs.
