The annual community “Angel’s” luncheon is coming up next week, and you’ll need to reserve now to participate in this yearly event to benefit a specific, tangible project for the betterment of our local community.

The Angels” are a group of community members who feel they can make an impact by focusing attention and raising funds to accomplish a specific project, that can offer direct and fairly immediate results. The hosting “Angels” pay the cost of the luncheon, and all donations raised at the event go directly to the cause which is featured in a presentation.

This year’s luncheon will benefit their ongoing program in support of offering English classes for school children in Punta de Mita.

All interested are invited to attend the Community Angel’s Luncheon, to take place on Wednesday, March 1st, 1 p.m., in the Carolina Restaurant of the St. Regis Punta Mita Resort. Reception and registration begins at 12:15 pm in the Altamira Lobby, St. Regis.

About the “Angels”:

The Angels Group originated 7 years ago when six women, Jane Grad, Sandy Howe, Barbara McGregor, Claire Newton, Catherine Schmidt and Sharon Seibens, shared a strong belief that it was important to give back to their community. As they discussed the challenges of what they felt was most needed in this community, they decided to focus their efforts on the local women and children. Their agreed approach was to sponsor an annual luncheon, give all the women in our community of visitors a chance to help accomplish a common goal while enjoying the companionship of one another at a beautiful relaxed luncheon together. The concept turned out to be a good one. As the saying goes,  “the proof is in the pudding”. The group has now raised over $140,000.00 USD to date. But more importantly, because of their initial program to teach English in the schools, which was subsequently turned over to PEACE to administer, approximately 1200 children are now speaking English in 10 schools.

English is, in fact, the key to opening most doors for a better job opportunity in this tourist community. The group, with all the support of their luncheon friends, have accomplished many of their goals.

However, there are always new challenges and needs.

The Angels meet annually with the local women of the community to listen and seek out what is most needed and how those needs can be addressed by this program.  For example, satisfied requests have been sheets, towels, and supplies for the hospitals in San Pancho. This was easily accomplished by a couple of calls to the hotels within the gates.

The Angels Group have been involved in sponsoring several programs to council women and children in the community, hiring nutritionists to teach the mothers and teachers a better, healthier way to eat. The Angels are restoring the local clinic to make it a cleaner, brighter place to visit as well as providing diagnostic equipment for better examinations for patients. These are just some of the things they have been involved in making a positive difference.

None of this could have happened without the amazing support of the vacationing and resident women that support them. So many of the luncheon attendees donate much more than just the price of a ticket. Also, the Angels strive for 100% of the donations going totally to all of their projects. The Angels personally cover all of the luncheon costs themselves.

While some of the founding members are no longer involved, the addition of new Angels like Beth Fuller will help assure the sustainability and the continued success of this concept.

To make a donation and reserve a spot at the luncheon, stop by the Foundation office within the gates of Punta Mita. The tickets are $125.00 USD or $2,500 MXN. Larger donations can also be made through the separate organizations in Canada and the USA and will receive a tax deduction. Please request details from Claire Newton at clairenewton@rogers.com.

Be an “angel” and be a part of this great event!
