Successful edition of the St. Regis Punta Mita Golf Challenge with Celebrity Core Pavin


The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort successfully celebrated the Punta Mita Golf Challenge this past weekend of January 14-18, 2015.  The resort’s signature event welcomed special guest Corey Pavin, 1995 U.S. Open Champion, Ryder Cup Captain and 15-time PGA Tour winner.  Furthermore, guests savored the flavors of Mexico with world-class cuisine by an acclaimed group of Mexico’s top chefs, including special guest Maycoll Calderon of J&G Grill by Jean-Georges Vongerichten and resident chefs Sylvain Desbois and Pato Persico.  

“We are thrilled with the success of The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort first signature destination event of 2015, welcoming for the fourth consecutive year golf celebrity Corey Pavin” said Carl Emberson, general manager. “The Punta Mita Golf Challenge was joined by more than 50 participants that along with Pavin enjoyed playing on our unparalleled Jack Nicklaus golf courses and partake in exquisite epicurean delights in true St. Regis style”.

The Punta Mita Golf Challenge kicked off with an Opening Cocktail Dinner and private clinic by Pavin. Each morning begun with a delightful breakfast followed by warm-up sessions at the resort’s driving range and putting green.  On Thursday, golfers participated in their first round on the Pacifico course – which features the distinctive “Tail of the Whale” 19th hole – followed by a golf clinic with Corey Pavin and an elegant dinner by Chef Sylvain Desbois at Carolina, the resort’s AAA Five Diamond restaurant. On Friday, golf enthusiasts proceed to round two of the golfing extravaganza on the resort’s oceanfront Bahia course, where players Drew Weaver and Michael William broke the course record with 66 points. The day closed with a decadent oceanfront dinner at Marietas Beach by guest Chef Maycoll Calderón from J&G Grill by Jean-Georges Vongerichten at The St. Regis Mexico City.

To conclude the exceptional event, golfers returned to the Pacifico course for their third and final round of golf on Saturday, January 17.  After a day on the green, guests congregated for an Awards Dinner at Sea Breeze by Chef Pato Persico.

With more than 50 participants, the winners of the Punta Mita Golf Challenge were:

  1. Drew Weaver and Michael Williams with 57 points
  2. Scott Nagy and Scott Warman, with 49 points
  3. Chaz Hamman and J.P Mahony, with 35 points

To conclude the event, The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort treated guests to a Farewell Brunch on Sunday, January 18 at Sea Breeze Beach Club before their departure.

Another extraordinary event that promises to become a new Punta Mita classic.
