Sayulita, the hippie-chic destination in Riviera Nayarit that inspires fashion designers

By Posted on 0

Sayulita is a core part of Riviera Nayarit, its sandy beaches perfect for water sports, and its laid-back and boho-chip ambiance make of this village unique, genuine and very popular among tourists.

It is thanks to this hip and surfer vibe that well-known designers have found inspiration in the Riviera Nayarit’s Surfing Capital, for the creation of their summer designs this past year. The collections include bathing suits, dresses for both day and night, and artisanal huarache sandals.

Located in the Banderas Bay, just 20 minutes away from Punta MitaSayulita has attracted big names such as Tori Praver Swinwear, Reformation, Apiece Apart and Chamula, which launched their respective collections with original designs notable for their airiness and comfort.

The collections are still available online at Lyst.com and Shopbop.com, two of the most-visited sites in the world, and more recently at SaksFifthAvenue.com, the luxury address in the United States for the New York flagship store.

Designer Tori Praver, who creates her own line of bikinis, has two one-piece bathing suits for sale: the Zilos Sayulita Swimsuit and the Tilos Tile Sayulita Swimsuit. http://bit.ly/2jTK067

Reformation offers a short beach dress designed for the “eco-conscious woman” in mind: http://bit.ly/2fpsCEB

Apiece Apart has two dress selections: Square Neck and Popcorn. The first one is the ideal day dress thanks to its light material; the second is a more elaborate confection in black crepe, perfect for a

night out. http://bit.ly/2xYtHLrhttp://bit.ly/2wc6OzC

Shoe designer Yuki Matsuda collaborated with Chamula to create a pair of traditional huarache sandals for Madewell out of tanned leather with long ankle straps, a great choice for beach weather. http://bit.ly/2ho1ym2

Of the Riviera Nayarit’s many micro-destinations, the Magical Town of Sayulita continues to garner interest not only from within Mexico but also from different countries in North and Latin America, and it is only minutes away from Punta Mita area, making it a fun option for a day (or evening) visit, definitely a must-do while visiting the area.

Fun Fact: According to Forbes, Sayulita was the most visited domestic destination in 2016, with an increase in travelers of 123% over the previous year!

Chiles en Nogada, a true Mexican flavors extravaganza!

By Posted on 0

Chiles en Nogada are a unique Mexican culinary tradition that combines the flavors, colors and history of the country with the sophistication and artfulness of their gastronomy to create a unique flavors extravaganza!

Chiles en Nogada are prepared with with poblano chiles stuffed with a mixture of meat and dried fruits, covered in walnut sauce, and garnished with pomegranate seeds, giving it the three colors of the Mexican flag. Traditionally this dish is prepared during the months of August and September when pomegranates are in season and the date also coincide with Mexico’s Independence celebrations making this dish both patriotic and festive.

Its creation goes back to the times when Mexico became an Independent Republic, times when the colors green, white and red began to be used as national colors in 1821, when the Trigarante Army, leaded by Vicente Guerrero adopted these colors on his flag.

In 1821, Agustín de Iturbide signed the documents that declared Mexico free and independent from Spain, on its way to Mexico City to become the first emperor of Mexico, he stoped at Puebla to celebrate his name day, knowing this, the Santa Monica’s convent decided to prepare a dish in his honor. The nuns combined on this dish the green chile poblano with a new and complicated filling prepared with fruits and ground beef, a white walnut creamy sauce and bright red pomegranate seeds.

Hungry? Celebrate Mexico, and try this unique delicacy!

And for those visiting Punta Mita during September, the Punta Mita Beach Clubs are featuring a Special Menu showcasing the best of the Mexican Cuisine, including Chiles en Nogada.

Descúbrete, a PEACE Punta de Mita program enriching the lives of local women and youths

By Posted on 0

PEACE Punta de Mita is a well known organization in the area. Founded back in 2013 by a small group of Punta de Mita area homeowners who, as seasonal residents, recognized the need to help to improve the social needs of the three Punta de Mita area villages. Over the years, new residents have joined this non profit, contributing with generous donations and valuable participation on PEACE programs and operations.

One of the many programs that PEACE has put in place is Descúbrete (Discover yourself in English), a personal growth counseling program that seeks to enrich the lives of local women, youths and in the near future men, via a cohesive program focused on self-discovery, self-reliance and empowerment.

The main goal is to help them gain insight into what is driving them, their motivations, their skills and abilities, strengths and weaknesses, and the patterns of behavior that keep them from achieving their potential. By understanding themselves, they find out what they really want, what is preventing them from having it, and how to overcome obstacles. This powerful program has been implemented around the world with much success.

When this program was originally stablished in the Punta Mita area, it was targeted at women who would meet in groups guided by facilitators, to share their experiences, assess their skills and personal attributes and generally help and encourage each other on their paths toward personal growth and more satisfying lives for themselves, their families and their communities. This initial stage was so successful that after one year, it was expanded to include youths aged 13 to 19.

For each Descúbrete session a group of trained and experienced counselors and psychologists facilitate the workshops, and the 2017 edition of this program is about to begin which promises to be another wonderful series of self-discovery and empowerment for the local community.

We invite you to learn more about this program and the rest of the activities that PEACE Punta de Mita develops, and why not, to support them, we all can contribute so these wonderful initiatives continue improving the quality of live of the community.

Best of luck on your new journey Ceci Paredes!

We know farewells are sad, but we are certain that every change is a new opportunity to get better and grow. Saying goodbye to Ceci after having her as leader of PEACE Punta Mita isn’t easy at all, but she has laid the foundations for the strong and successful organization that PEACE is today.

Ceci took the role of Executive Director on April 01, 2013 of PEACE Punta de Mita A.C., and her presence was critical to the start-up, it was thanks to her leadership and profound effort that the process of winding up the old Peace, and starting up the new PEACE was such a successful achievement.

Her strong leadership abilities were the driving force behind the successful introduction of the new PEACEstrategy of improving the lives of the local villagers by investing in the next generation, children & youths, focusing principally on education.

Not only overseeing already implemented programs such as Avanza and Computers, Ceci orchestrated new ones, including Campeones, and most notably the English Program which excels by reaching over 1,200 students in the community to improve invaluable second language skills, whilst creating social change. Four years on, Ceci is now closing this chapter of her life with PEACE to seek new challenges.

With the reorganizing of the PEACE team, Ceci will be passing the torch to new Executive Director, Ali Elíasand the team. In addition to this mentoring role, she will also be dedicating herself to some key projects, including an amazing new PEACE Learning Center which will be built on land provided by Dine. We thank Ceci for her determined leadership and profound contribution to start PEACE in difficult times, and to launch it on its path of success.

To wish Ceci farewell, PEACE staff organized a surprise gathering to celebrate her achievements and wish her well on her ventures! Members of the community, including SEPThe St. Regis Punta Mita Resort and Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita staff, along with students and their families, met in the “Casa de la Tercera Edad“  to surprise Ceci. The night was full of great music, traditional dance, and memories, with great food and drink supplied by the hotels and community members.

We wish you nothing but the best Ceci, good luck in your new projects and thank you so much for all your love and devotion for this community.

¡Buena Suerte Ceci!
